Update 6-1-10
Four weeks ago GinGin had her Luxating Patella repaired and is doing well with this surgery after the 3 week check up Gin Gin is able to add swimming back to her
therapy. The Surgeon thought fixing the grade 5 luxation would help her rehabilitation on the path to walking again. Gin Gin is improving at a very slow pace; this has been
expected all along. The Surgeon is not willing to give up on her. She has so much attitude and is a strong little girl.
3/10
Gingin had her surgery and is recovering in foster care and receiving daily physical therapy. Her doctor says it will take a long time for her spinal cord
to recover. She is a sweetheart and we will take care of her for as long as it takes to get her back up on her feet again. Thank you for supporting Gingin.
update 01-30-10
Gingin had her surgery, the doctor removed the apparatus from the first surgery under the neck, he then went in on top of the neck to try to repair the C1 and C2
vertebrae. The doctor found the spinal cord is swollen and is not certain if she will walk again. Gingin came home this afternoon and we will take her back to
the surgeon in three weeks for a review. It is his opinion that it is going to be a very long recovery time for Gingin. Thank you for your prayers and donations
to help us take care of this poor little girl.
update 01-19-10
This is what our orthopedic surgeon has to say after he examined Gingin today, we have contacted Gingin's Mom and Dad and they have given permission for her surgery,
we feel this is the best chance she has at a normal life, to be able to romp and play as she should...she is such a young girl she needs all the chances we can give
her...unfortunately her surgery will cost us $1,800.00 so we are asking yet again for more help for this little girl.....Corrine has committed to keep Gingin in her
care for as long as her recovery time is......and to do the much needed physical therapy she will need after her surgery. This little girl truly needs our help...
Please help us help her......
"Gingin was examined on this date (01-19-10) to access the problems that she has been exhibiting after have surgery for an Atlanto-Axial luxation surgery. Since I
do not know her neurologic status prior to that surgery 7-09 I can not comment on where it was related to the status she has today.
Gingin has neurologic deficits in the right front leg and both rear legs. She has proprioceptive loss in those legs that does not permit her to stand without
assistance or to try to walk. The deficits are most certainly due to a AA luxation.
I took a radiograph of her cervical spine and found that the type of surgery she has had was a surgery in which screws were placed into the underneath of the
first two cervical vertebrae and then an acrylic mass was placed around the screw heads to hold the assembly in place.
At this time the repair is not holding the first two cervical vertebrae in a normal reduced position. This abnormal position is placing pressure on the spinal
cord and is the cause of the neurologic deficits. I am not sure if the assembly has moved since surgery or if it was always in the wrong position. In any case,
the current implants could be removed and then surgery done on the dorsal area of the vertebrae to reduce them to their normal position. Unfortunately, I am not
at all certain that the spinal cord would return to normal function. If it did, it would likely take a number of months for recovery."
UPDATE ON Gingin 01-18-10
Gingin has had 2 weeks of therapy at University of Tennessee, which would not have been possible without all of the generous donations from our many generous
supporters and Angels who always step up when we need help.....She was responding well but the cost was going to be on going and neither we, nor her Mom and Dad
could afford to continue it so it was decided that Gingin would go to one of our very best foster Moms who has done fantastic with our little rescues who have
needed extensive physical therapy....Corrine is amazing with what she does with these little ones!!! She is the reason our other babies with leg surgeries and
nerve damage, such as Teagan are able to walk now. Gingin will be doing water therapy as well as weight management daily, under the guidance of the wonderful
DR's at UT.
Gingin left UT in the loving arms of one of our newest foster Moms, Melanie, who has been so wonderful in helping us with our latest Liver Shunt babies after her
very own baby had surgery at UT for Liver Shunt......Mary Elizabeth drove to meet Melanie last Friday (1-15-10) halfway to Knoxville to pick up Gingin, then drove
back home to Nashville and left the next day (1-16-10) to meet up with Corrine in Kentucky to deliver Gingin to her and to continue back to Indiana. The time spent
and the miles these ladies put on their own personal vehicles as well as fuel expenses they do all on their own to Rescue and help these little ones is so appreciated
by each and every one of these precious little babies....one little kiss from these little ones makes it all worth it....
Gingin is responding well to Corrine, but it has been decided that Gingin needs to see our Orthopedic Specialist to see if he can correct the twisting of one of
Gingin's legs. Gingin also has a cart with her to help her walk but the cart is for a dog the size of a Cocker Spaniel and is basically useless for one as tiny
as Gingin....and Gingin needs a 4 wheel cart, one that will support both her front as well as her back, these carts are so expensive, so once again we are asking
for your help. Her vet bills will continue to grow if it is found that a surgery will help her twisted leg. Gingin's Mom and Dad are so grateful for all of the
help so far for Gingin and without the help you have all given Gingin would never have gotten this far. We are so hopeful for her and want to see her go back to
her Mom and Dad who she misses terribly and they miss her as well but know that this temporary separation is necessary to get help for their baby.....They have spent
all they can afford to help Gingin, with their elderly age they are on a very limited fixed income and Gingin is all they have to make their days bright.
Dinks Memorial Fund is helping with these medical bills but like all of YNTR's special funds we are getting low, our Liver Shunt Fund has helped 4 LS babies in the
last 60 days and is dangerously low....each little one that comes in is another $2,500.00 bill. Dinks fund has been hit real hard also.....
Please can you find it in your heart to help us help Gingin and her family
Thank you
